After Hurricane Melissa: Rebuilding the Kindred Community

November 5, 2025
by Veronica Martinez

Provide assistance for Jamaican community members affected by Hurricane Melissa

From Staceyann Chin, poet and founder of Kindred on the Rock, an inclusive community farm in the mountains of Jamaica:

Days ago, in the immediate aftermath of the storm, we picked up the wet garbage and buried our dead animals. Our neighbors are still sifting through the mud for things that might still be of value, sentimental or otherwise. Entire roofs lifted away. Five of our families are left with no safe space to sleep.

The pig pen, the dog house, and the chicken coops were all destroyed.

That day was really, really hard. We are asking folks to help us rebuild.

So—If you wish to help, or if anyone in your circle does, please direct them to the Gofundme BELOW.

The struggle continues.
We walk in gratitude.

Hurricane Melissa hit the Carribean in late October 2025, impacting millions of people in Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti. If you have the means to do so, please help these community members working to rebuild their homes and food sources!
