SUMMARY:9th Cascadia Poetry Festival
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be here? What practices help reconnect a person to a place? How does this manifest in Cascadia as opposed to other bioregions\, places? What are poets doing to respond to the realities of the United States moving toward an authoritarian style of rule?  \nThe Cascadia Poetry Festival is a gathering of poets and bioregionalists\, exploring poetry and its connection to environmental\, political\, historical\, and sociological pursuits within Cascadia bioregion. The festival aims to consider how prioritizing natural and cultural boundaries\, rather than arbitrary political ones\, can address climate change and other issues. \nOctober 10-12\, 2025 at the Rainier Beach Community Center \nFull schedule available HERE. Gold passes available HERE. \nWorkshops and panels featuring poets Brenda Cardenas\, Zach Charles\, Jim Dott\, Roberto Harrison\, Brenda Hillman\, Alicia Hokanson\, Robert Lashley\, Lorin Medley\, Rhea Melina\, Gabriella Gutiérrez y Muhs\, Paul E. Nelson\, Roxi Power\, Robert Michael Pyle\, Sharon Thesen\, Matt Trease\, Jason Wirth\, Katie Sarah Zale.

SUMMARY:Robert Duncan's HD Book
DESCRIPTION:Robert Duncan’s H.D. Book: The Roots of Modernism with Michael Boughn\nWe will read The H.D. Book together over 5 weeks. It’s a big book\, so that’s a lot of reading\, but he’s a joy to read\, so it’s not exactly onerous. I will probably talk a bit at the beginning of each session and then open it up to the participants. I wrote the introduction. You should read it first. We can talk about that as well. The goal here is to let Duncan lead us into an encounter with the marvelous as we follow his encounter with H.D. as it led him into the depths of history\, mind\, and soul. \nWednesdays 5:30-7:30 PM Pacific Time\nSeptember 17 – October 15\, 2025 \nSeptember 17\, 24\nOctober 1\, 8\, and 15 \nOnline\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Winter in America (Again in Sacramento
DESCRIPTION:WINTER IN AMERICA (AGAIN — POETS RESPOND TO 2024 ELECTION: A HYBRID READING FEATURING CONTRIBUTORS TO THE ANTHOLOGY \nThis event will be in person and via Zoom. Monday\, July 21 at 7:30-9:30 PM PDT\nSacramento Poetry Center\n1719 25th Street\nSacramento\, CA 95816\nZOOM LINK  \nSPC is grateful to be able to host a reading featuring contributors to the important anthology\, Winter In America (Again — Poets Respond to 2024 Election (Carbonation Press\, Spokane\, 2025). They will be joined by local poets who will also read selections from the book. As we already see dire consequences to the results of the election\, it is imperative that all of us work toward actions that will help mitigate the damage. Poets are often at the forefront of such action — talking back and speaking to the heart of the issues. So it is with this collection. Many thanks to all of the contributors and local participants. Special gratitude is offered to poet and translator (and anthology contributor) William O’Daly for his efforts to make this event possible.\n \nThe readers — some of whom are editors and editorial board members for the book as well as contributors — include Greg Bem\, Francisco Dominguez\, Lara Gularte\, Lorin Medley\, Paul Nelson\, William O’Daly\, Roxy Power\, Beverly Parayno\, Theresa Whitehill\, Cathleen Williams\, Katie Sarah Zale\, and Patrick Grizzell.
