Colored Horse Studios: Design at the Intersection of Heart & Market
Theresa Whitehill, Design Director and Co-founder of Colored Horse Studios, brings a background in letterpress printing, literary and book arts, graphic design, and typography to her design studio, which provides custom graphic design and editorial services for marketing and publishing. Her experience over the course of 30 years includes book design, packaging, strategic branding development, research and copywriting, print project management, design and implementation of maps, websites, publications, point of sale, and merchandise.
Whitehill co-founded the business in 1993 with her husband, artist Paulo Ferreira, with the idea that, as working artists, they had a lot to contribute to commercial design, and their work over thirty years shows a rich cross-over between artistic and commercial projects that emphasize those that are culturally significant. This led to Whitehill becoming involved with the software giant, Adobe, as a judge and mentor for their Adobe Design Achievement Awards, an international student awards organization that features the best and most talented of digital artists enrolled in design programs worldwide.
Selected clients include Stags’ Leap Winery, Grace Hudson Museum, Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians, Cascadia Poetics Lab, North Coast Brewing Company, Beringer Vineyards, Food First, hit & run press, Hudson Ranch and Vineyards, Seghesio Family Vineyards, Treasury Wine Estates, Rombauer Vineyards, Germain-Robin Craft Distillers, Frey Vineyards, Brion, and Frey Vineyards.
