2027 Poetry Postcard Registration Open

Dear Postcard Poet,

I’ve read reports on social media about people dropping their last few postcards into a mailbox yesterday and so the fest is not REALLY over, but here at the bioregional HQ of the Cascadia Poetics Lab, we’re focused on 2027 which will be year 21. Registration is open: https://cascadiapoeticslab.org/ppf-2027-event-registration/

There are a few people who have written us, saying they did not get the number of cards they expected and the measuring against expectations is a recipe for suffering. Also, when we complain, we lower our inner state, but of course the notion that people commit and then renege on that commitment is also bad karma. We trust karma to do its job. Always.

Today (Sept 1, 2026) is a good day to register and then come to the PPF Open Mic at 5pm PDT. Email me back for the Zoom link.

The joy of the fest was recently communicated by Saga Sundström who, with Megan Durham handled about 98% of the list duties for the fest. Saga wrote:

1. Did the experience this year reveal something to you in your own writing? To paraphrase Charles Olson, do you stand more revealed in consequence of your own writing of so many spontaneous poems this last two months?

2. Did you experience, or notice, any change over the time, in how you approached your writing, and if so, do you think it will have a lasting and positive effect going forward?

The transformative power of writing poetry feels so significant, and this has been a source of great joy these past two months, in addition to the postcard art and poems that I have received.

When the focus comes off the inner movement of the practice, you’ve lost the script. Those who can experience the joy of this festival often sign up for the next year months in advance. For those folks, I am especially grateful. For anyone who participates and sends our 31 original poems, real poems, on postcards, I am grateful.

There have been a few folks who have registered already. They monitor the site on Sept 1 each year and are eager to get in one of the first few groups. They are the heart and soul of this project and, in many ways, the Cascadia Poetics Lab. We need to learn from Fujitaro and see the gardens that can grow from our wastelands, from the Pacific trash heap to the City of Seattle dump to the logged former forestland to the filled in estuaries of rivers like the Duwamish that make the Port of Seattle or Marshlands that make Baltimore’s inner harbor to the sprawl of LA and suburbs around all cities in this country to the merciless businesses of insurance and pharmaceuticals and lobbying and media (social, in particular) and AI and bottled water and so on.
