CJ Prince Has Passed

April 7, 2026
by Ryukan

Longtime Bellingham, WA postcard poet CJ Prince has lost her battle with cancer. The news went out on her Facebook page via her Grandchild and Denny Stern forward us this note:

CJ Prince who was an active postcard poet recently passed away and Suzanne Miller is compiling a kind of memorial collection. I thought you should know about this if you do not & that some cascadia poets who didn’t know might want to be part of this effort of Susan’s (see pdf)

    Thanks for posting this
I know Susan is hoping that some postcard poets who knew or exchanged with CJ might reach out
CJ was an original & quite active until her recent & rapid decline
Her latest & last book is apparently out now & is titled “dressing for the end of the world “

OH no !! I have received a number of postcards from her during the various fests. CJ had such a spirit. I will miss not having her on my postcard lists. I will remember you.

Thank you for this note–I admired CJ and enjoyed her poetry! I’m glad you are spreading the word.
However. It would be great if folks could stop using the cliche “battle” that is “lost” to cancer. She lived her best. Yes.
