October 11, 2022
by Ryukan

The Cascadia Poetics Lab is proud to collaborate with the Philosophy Department of Seattle University, Open Books: A Poem Emporium, WESTAF and Poets & Writers to present poet, translator and anthologist Pierre Joris for a reading, a book signing and a special reception for Founding Supporters of the Cascadia Poetics Lab. Pierre will be in Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria, BC, talking about his Paul Celan translation project and his new book:

Always the Many, Never the One: Conversations In-between, with Florent Toniello. “Always the Many, Never the One builds upon the initial interview by Florent Toniello that took place that day to go deeper into a major Luxembourg-American poet’s reflections on literature, philosophy, and life. Throughout this book Joris develops a core concept of his thinking and writing, “in-betweenness,” using both literary examples and life anecdotes, some never shared in Joris’s vast bibliography so far.”

Friday, October 14, 7pm reading/talk at Seattle U’s Bannon Auditorium
Saturday, October 15, 3pm book signing at Open Books

Friday night is a memorial for a friend, so I will miss the Seattle University talk. But hope to make Saturday’s events. Wow. What a treat.

In this session it will be a presentation of how the postcard fest developed, how the daysong developed, how I prepare for the fest and how participants attending prepare for the fest, as well as how to prepare for a successful daysong. The similarities of the daysong to serial poetry could be discussed, as well as the effort to put one’s self into the open, which has benefits in one’s own life.

Interview with Postcard Poet Laura Gamache

Part of the Cascadia 2050 mission is: to inspire artists and poets of the next generation to consider bioregionalism and intuitive poetic approach as a way to foster a more just and sustainable Cascadia by 2050. To this end, one of our goals is to interview people who help us spread awareness by having practices in their lives that reflect these values. This interview with Postcard Poet Laura Gamache, a Seattle who has published poetry in the usual places, such as chapbooks, journals and anthologies, and also unusual places, such as buses, is the first of the series.
