Launch Party for The Outside by Matt Trease

April 8, 2025
by Veronica Martinez

Launch Party for The Outside by Matt Trease, Hosted by the Theosophical Society Seattle Library

Join us on April 12, 2025 at 5 P.M. PST at the Theosophical Society Library (717 Broadway E) as Venus gets ready to go direct in Pisces for a special release reading of The Outside, the latest poetry collection by Margin Shift curator, poet, and astrologer, Matt Trease, published by Carbonation Press.

The Outside unfolds a luminous tapestry of cosmic echoes and earthly intimacies. In a series of poetic dictations and divinations, Matt Trease navigates constellations of language, myth, and transcendence, inviting readers to dwell in mystery. An alchemical journey of perception, this book blurs the line between the tangible earth-breath and the infinite heavens.

Matt will be joined by special guests:

  • Tanya Holtland – author of Requisite (Platypus Press, 2020) and the chapbook, Inner River (Drop Leaf Press, 2016)

  • K Van Petten –  author of For Someone, (Hello America Stereo Cassette, 2023)

  • Connor Colbert – member of secular-worship/poem-rock band False Hemlock, editorial assistant at Poetry Northwest

  • Paul E. Nelson – founder and Executive Director of the Cascadia Poetics Lab and author of a number of books of poetry and interviews, most recently DaySong Miracle (Past 62) (Carbonation Press, 2024) and Cascadian Prophets (Interviews 1999-2023) (Cascadia Poetics Lab, 2024)

We’ll migrate to Corvus & Co afterwards for socializing and celebrating. We hope to see you there!

Postcarding and DaySonging (A Workshop). In this session it will be a presentation of how the postcard fest developed, how the daysong developed, how I prepare for the fest and how participants attending prepare for the fest, as well as how to prepare for a successful daysong. The similarities of the daysong to serial poetry could be discussed, as well as the effort to put one’s self into the open, which has benefits in one’s own life.
