9th Cascadia Poetry Festival Oct. 10-12

What does it mean to be here? How does one connect more deeply to a place, and how does this manifest in Cascadia? How can we, as poets, artists and creatives, respond to and interact with a country spiraling into authoritarianism?

We will be diving into these questions and more at the 9th Cascadia Poetry Festival, a 3-day gathering of poets, academics and bioregionalists from within and outside Cascadia. The festival has always aimed to consider how prioritizing natural and cultural boundaries, rather than arbitrary political ones, can address climate change and other social and ecological issues. Now, as the U.S. faces political and social turmoil, borders between countries and people grow more divisive, technology is co-opting creativity and humanity, and the world faces devastating violence and the rise of fascism, the Cascadia Poetry Festival is more than a gathering of poetry and environment: it is an organizing of humanity and creative resistance. Gathering community for open dialogue and the sharing of poetry/art as both expression and resistance is vital to keeping our communities safe and vigilant in the face of corruption, and the Cascadia Poetry Festival aims to foster these dialogues and enliven our audience to create and engage more deeply with self, the places surrounding them and the people in those places.

Multiple Gold Pass registration options are available HERE, including scholarships for students. The full CPF9 schedule and poet lineup is available HERE! We have multiple workshop options that will allow participants to more deeply engage with different aspects of their poetic practice, which you can learn about HERE.

The similarities of the daysong to serial poetry could be discussed, as well as the effort to put one’s self into the open, which has benefits in one’s own life.

Interview with Postcard Poet Laura Gamache

Part of the Cascadia 2050 mission is: to inspire artists and poets of the next generation to consider bioregionalism and intuitive poetic approach as a way to foster a more just and sustainable Cascadia by 2050. To this end, one of our goals is to interview people who help us spread awareness by having practices in their lives that reflect these values. This interview with Postcard Poet Laura Gamache, a Seattle who has published poetry in the usual places, such as chapbooks, journals and anthologies, and also unusual places, such as buses, is the first of the series.
