Daysong Workshops Jan. 22 and 25, 2026!
January 22 and January 25 from 3-5 PM PDT, Cascadia Poetics Lab will be hosting FREE workshops facilitated by Paul Nelson discussing the Daysong writing practice, how to accomplish it and what it means to the poet that pulls it off. CLICK HERE to learn more and register! Both workshops will be essentially the same, so register for the date that works best for you. This workshop is being offered as a gift from the Cascadia Poetics Lab to anyone interested in it, but a limit of 15 for each iteration will be maintained. As such, the first 30 registrants who make a contribution via our registration platform will be invited to participate.
The daysong exercise is a poem written within 24 hours (or however long you’re awake for the 24-hour period), inspired by Bernadette Mayer’s Midwinter Day and Pierre Joris’ Canto Diurno #1 to extend the writing practice of participants of the Poetry Postcard Fest. It is preferred to have as much solitude as possible for the entire day of writing, and doing prior research/having books on hand can be helpful for this practice. Materials on the daysong “form”, techniques for writing all day and practices to prepare a poet for such an occasion will be offered at the workshops. Paul Nelson has published multiple of his daysong writings, such as Another Daysong (1980), The Day Song of Casa del Colibrí (Como Sacramentos) and Daysong Miracle (Past 62).
