The Seattle University Philosophy Department presents

Red Pine and Andrew Schelling

Poetry Reading: Translations from Classical Chinese and Sanskrit

Tuesday, February 17, at 6 pm
in the Rolfe Room on the campus of Seattle University

Spend an evening with two of the best-known and celebrated poet-translators, Red Pine (Classical Chinese) and Andrew Schelling (Sanskrit). Red Pine (Bill Porter) will read from his recent If a Mountain Lion Could Sing: The Lyric Poems of Xin Qiji (Copper Canyon, 2025). Andrew Schelling will read from his recent Old Time Love Song Magic (Circumference Books, 2025), his translation with commentary of the 30 or so known poems by the 8th Century Indian poetess Vidyā. The translators will also discuss with each other and the audience the art and challenges of translating classical Asian poetry.

Free and Open to the Seattle University Campus Community and the general Public. Refreshments and finger foods will be served.

For more information, contact Dr. Jason M. Wirth (wirthj@seattleu.edu)
