Pierre Joris on A Nomad Poetics

October 16, 2022

The Cascadia Poetics Lab was delighted to partner with the Seattle University Department of Philosophy and Open Books: A Poem Emporium to facilitate a visit by master poet, translator and anthologist Pierre Joris. Pierre is both philosopher and poet and his 55 year translation project of the work of Paul Celan was the subject of his Friday night (Oct 14, 2022) talk at Seattle U. Earlier that day we sat down at CPL World HQ at Casa del Colibrí and talked about the common ground between an organization whose poetics are dedicated to rooting deeply in a place and his Nomad Poetics, articulated in the 2003 Wesleyan University Press book of the same name. Excerpt:

We are grateful to Open Books, Seattle U’s Department of Philosophy, WESTAF and Poets & Writers.

I love this. No rest for the poet, as it should be. These are inspiring words. Look forward to hearing the interview. Sad to miss the readings; engine woes.
