Seattle Author Tessa Hulls Wins Pulitzer Prize

May 19, 2025
by Veronica Martinez

Seattle author, illustrator and adventurer Tessa Hulls has won a Pulitzer Prize for her graphic memoir, Feeding Ghosts! The memoir dives into 3 generations of Hull’s matrilineal history, which includes fact-finding trips to the People’s Republic of China and a translation of a book her grandmother wrote, with an overall theme of healing the bloodline. In February of 2024, Paul interviewed Tessa for the Cascadian Prophets podcast on the release of the book, which is now not only a Pulitzer Prize winner, but was listed as a Time Magazine Best Book of the Year, Kirkus Prize Finalist, and National Book Critics Circle Award Winner.

Many, many congratulations to Tessa for this incredible achievement! You can listen to Paul’s interview with Tessa and hear the early insight on a now renowned publication HERE

This interview with Postcard Poet Laura Gamache, a Seattle who has published poetry in the usual places, such as chapbooks, journals and anthologies, and also unusual places, such as buses, is the first of the series.
