A few years ago, near the end of the legendary run of Red Sky Poetry Theater, Marion Kimes, the doyenne of Red Sky, pointed out the success of the series by mentioning the different spin-off projects, or projects in part inspired by Red Sky, including SPLAB. I liked that way of looking at success and see that in some way a recent Seattle open mic has, in part, taken up where Red Sky left off.
I speak of Breadline, which has its year-end finale on Wednesday, Dec 19, 2013. Greg Bem, Alex Bleecker and Jeremy Springsteed have created a wonderful series and that they met at SPLAB, is something that gives me great satisfaction. Now the Stranger is calling it “the most exiting reading series in Seattle.” Wednesday’s event should be great. I hope to see you there.
