SICA-USA Benefit Auction

July 17, 2023
Ryukan

SICA-USA SIlent Auction BannerSICA-USA is the cultural wing of Subud USA, a spiritual community to which I have belonged since 2004. Currently they are raising funds to support worthy projects like the Poetry Postcard Fest, which they have done for three years now, including a renewal of support for 2023/2024.

Their silent auction has some remarkable work, including art from our web & graphics genius Roberta Hoffman and postcard poet and encaustic artist Lawrence Pevec. Consider a bid, but soon, as time is running out. Thank you SICA-USA for your support of the Poetry Postcard Fest!

This post was so great to see. Thanks for the exposure and boost for the SICA-USA Online Auction. I’m excited about my new postcard series this year. Decided to simplify my graphics and not do encaustic this year, however. Thanks for all you do for poets and mail artists. LP

Author of “Tracks Along The Left Coast: Jaime D’Angulo & Pacific Coast Culture” and “From the Arapaho Songbook” and many other titles, he lives in the mountains outside of Boulder, Colorado, and teaches poetry and Sanskrit at Naropa University. The new book is Forests, Temples and Glacial Rivers, published by Empty Bowl.

In the call, we stated: “We are looking for words that come from thoughtful reflection and compassion for the loss we feel for ourselves and this country. (Please no screeds.)” Still, we got many poems that were filled with righteous anger, on which we passed. The book features many poems that offer suggestions, pathways and even self-care tips for the new Winter in America. That very phrase “Winter in America” comes from Gil Scott-Heron, and was used by the editors as a sort-of invocation to Gil’s spirit and legacy. I
