Support Cascadia Poetics Lab’s Programming!
TODAY, December 3, 2024 marks Giving Tuesday, the national day of giving in which organizations around the country like ours work to raise funds for their offerings. Cascadia Poetics Lab asks you to extend your generosity this Giving Tuesday with a donation to Cascadia Poetics Lab. Much of our programming is funded through our supporters. You are a vital component to celebrating poetry and place in Cascadia.
Our organization provides a unique perspective as we organize bioregionally and explore poetry’s relationship to surrounding ecosystems and the present moment. We reject national boundaries in favor of a bioregional culture built for the 21st century. Cascadia Poetics Lab believes that our mission to empower people to practice poetry and deepen connections to place, self and the present moment is vital to the well-being of all living through the current environmental/political crises, no matter who you are.
2024 has been an incredible year of celebrating poetry and place with the Cascadia Poetics Lab! This year, we hosted a successful
8th Cascadia Poetry Festival at the Hugo House, Neukom Vivarium and Spring Street Center. We enjoyed an enriching weekend of poetry and place with many renowned poets and academics, and we hope to continue to partner with the Hugo House to host next year’s Cascadia Poetry Festival. Cascadia Poetry Festival 8 was a celebration of the publication of
Cascadian Zen Vol. II, published by Watershed Press. We are so excited to share this anthology of breathtaking art and writing exploring expressions of Zen in the Cascadia bioregion.
In 2024, we also expanded our in-person programming with the first Poetry and Posole Fundraiser and in-person Postcard Poetry event,
Postcards from Here, at the Olympic Sculpture Park. We plan on continuing to develop more in-person events in 2025. Additionally, in 2024 we hosted our
most successful Poetry Postcard Festival in its 18 year history, with over 600 participants spanning ten countries.
Your donations also make possible the
Cascadian Prophets podcast: in-depth interviews of a huge array of bioregional artists. The podcast has resulted in two books of transcribed interviews, including
Cascadian Prophets edited by Sharon Thesen and published early in 2024. This year, Paul Nelson has recruited Zach Charles as an audio assistant to produce podcasts from our 30 year audio archive.
Please consider a year end donation, sign up for a workshop, sponsor the podcast, make a donation targeted at our publishing imprint Watershed Press or buy a few copies of Cascadian Zen. We are gearing up for another successful and exciting year of poetry and place in Cascadia, and could use the extra support at this time to go into 2025 in a financially robust way.
