Communal reading of Bernadette Mayer’s Midwinter Day

On December 21st, 2025 at Common Objects in Seattle (2601 1st Ave), celebrate the winter solstice with a communal reading of Bernadette Mayer’s book-length poem Midwinter Day! Participants will take turns reading the book out loud to each other and writing with provided prompts. The event begins at 10 A.M. Pacific Time. Snacks will be provided, and copies of the book will be available onsite. This event is FREE! Click HERE to RSVP.

Those that would like to read are encouraged to sign up in advance, but walk in readers are also welcome, and reading is not required to attend! Sign up to read by clicking HERE. Thank you to local poet Sierra Nelson for hosting this event and telling us about it!

If you’re not able to attend this event, consider attending one of Paul Nelson’s Daysong workshops, which will explore Midwinter Day and the practice of writing all day.

The similarities of the daysong to serial poetry could be discussed, as well as the effort to put one’s self into the open, which has benefits in one’s own life.
