The Last Poetry Postcard Fest Activation of 2026

May 23, 2026
by Ryukan

11a-1p, Saturday, June 6 is your last time to hang out with other postcard poets, learn about the area’s local history and create some collages for your 2026 Poetry Postcard Fest season. It’s year 20 and we felt that fact deserved a bit of celebration. Meet Zach Charles and your humble narrator, as we meet at Pritchard Beach in Seattle’s south end.

11a-1pm Saturday, June 6, 2026, 8400 55th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118

In addition to postcards, collage materials and gathering with other postcard poets and people interested in the project, we’ll have a beautiful setting on Lake Washington with a view of Mercer Island. There could be eagles, geese, ducks, kingfishers and other wildlife. That this is in a major city is part of Seattle’s charm and natural beauty. Coffee and pastries will be provided by Onda Origins in Hillman City, and we’ll likely head out after for lunch for those interested.

The Poetry Postcard Fest is nearing the 400 participant mark and earlybird registration goes up after June 4, which marks a month until the fest starts. (It goes by quickly!) As you may know, the Cascadia Poetics Lab runs the fest and laid off its staff on March 3. Verónica Martinez is no longer with the organization and we’re moving forward with a very small group of committed volunteers and an intrepid Founding Director who has seen the ups and downs of running an arts non-profit for over 32 years. Our recent spring fund drive was an enormous success and there are many postcard participants who contribute more than the minimum suggested donation for Postcard Fest registration. Thank you to you if you are one of those folks.

We’ll have a couple of online workshops coming before the festival begins, one of which is scheduled: https://cascadiapoeticslab.org/2026/05/postcarding-daysinging-a-workshop/ On that occasion (June 14, 3-5pm PDT) we’ll provide a history of the Poetry Postcard Fest, tips on best practices and also tips on how to create a day-long writing ritual at the end of the postcard fest, a daysong. This workshop is open to all currently registered Poetry Postcard Fest participants. We ask for a donation to help the cause.

With gratitude for the community that has been built over 20 years of practice. Have you registered for the Poetry Postcard Fest? You can read testimonials for the fest from 2022 here.

Postcarding and DaySonging (A Workshop). In this session it will be a presentation of how the postcard fest developed, how the daysong developed, how I prepare for the fest and how participants attending prepare for the fest, as well as how to prepare for a successful daysong. The similarities of the daysong to serial poetry could be discussed, as well as the effort to put one’s self into the open, which has benefits in one’s own life.

Interview with Postcard Poet Laura Gamache

Part of the Cascadia 2050 mission is: to inspire artists and poets of the next generation to consider bioregionalism and intuitive poetic approach as a way to foster a more just and sustainable Cascadia by 2050. To this end, one of our goals is to interview people who help us spread awareness by having practices in their lives that reflect these values. This interview with Postcard Poet Laura Gamache, a Seattle who has published poetry in the usual places, such as chapbooks, journals and anthologies, and also unusual places, such as buses, is the first of the series.
