Superbowl of Poetry Ticket Stub

It was a theme back in the mid-90s for SPLAB to counter-program the Super Bowl. We got great press for
our annual Super Bowl of Poetry (see below) because journalists liked writing the predictable story about how silly poets were NOT going to watch the game EVERYONE ELSE was watching as if it were a national holiday and we were heretics. See this bookmark from year 6. (Felicia Gonzales canceled after we printed the bookmarks and Clarice Keegan has recently passed away.)

There was a time when the NFL was cracking down on business using the term “Super Bowl” without NFL permission, so to be smart asses, we moved the “b” over and once called it the “Superb Owl of Poetry”

This is just to say that I planned my American Prophets promotional gig for THIS SUNDAY, Super Bowl Sunday 2019 at 3pm at Elliott Bay Book Company, 1521 Tenth Avenue, Seattle. From their site: Paul Nelson, founder of SPLAB/Seattle Poetics LAB and Founding Director of the Cascadia Poetry Festival, joins us today with highlights from some of the interviews he has collected in his new book, American Prophets: Interviews with Thinkers, Activists, Poets & Visionaries (Seattle Poetics Lab). Included here are Paul Nelson’s interviews with luminaries such as Rupert Sheldrake, Jean Houston, Wanda Coleman, Allen Ginsberg and many others… I hope to see you.

Wish You Were Here (Drew Myron)

It’s postcard season, and I’m ready! Once, a young friend went to Europe. “Send me a postcard,” I said as she departed. She arrived in the foreign country, purchased a postcard, and had no idea what to do. Where do I write a message, put the address, place the stamp?...
